This page is for fast-running bearings: machine-tool spindles, spinning and textile machines, high-speed motors and fans. How to calculate the n·dm speed factor of a bearing, the table of LUBCON greases by n·dm and base-oil viscosity, and what to check when changing grease.
Grease for high-speed bearings is chosen by the n·dm speed factor (rpm multiplied by the mean bearing diameter in mm) stated in the TDS, not by NLGI grade or color. The higher the speed, the thinner the base oil must be so that it does not generate heat: 25 mm²/s for n·dm up to 2,200,000 (TURMOGREASE Highspeed L 252), 55 mm²/s up to 1,300,000 (THERMOPLEX 2 TML), 100–150 mm²/s up to 600,000–800,000 (TURMOGREASE CAN 1002, N 2). The fill quantity follows the machine manual or the bearing manufacturer, usually only 20–30 % of the free volume; a full fill makes the bearing run hot and fail early. Changing to a grease with a different thickener requires cleaning out.
n·dm = rotational speed (rpm) × mean diameter dm = (bore + outside diameter) / 2 (mm). Example: a 12,000 rpm spindle with a 7014 bearing (70 × 110 mm) has dm = 90 mm, n·dm = 1,080,000. Choose a grease whose n·dm in the TDS is higher than the calculated value.

n·dm and temperature ranges per the LUBCON TDS published on the product pages. Bearings under warranty, or machines for which the manufacturer specifies a particular grease, stay on the manufacturer's list.
High-temperature greases for low- and medium-speed bearings: see the high-temperature grease page; using another manufacturer's grease: see what to check.
In a thinner base oil (25–55 mm²/s instead of 100–200 mm²/s) and a thickener that holds the oil at high speed, expressed by the n·dm speed factor in the TDS. An ordinary grease in a fast-running bearing generates heat, runs out and ruins the bearing.
LUBCON TURMOGREASE Highspeed L 252 (n·dm about 2,200,000, base oil 25 mm²/s) or THERMOPLEX 2 TML (1,300,000, 55 mm²/s) depending on the spindle speed; fill quantity by the number of grams stated in the machine manual.
THERMOPLEX 2 TML was trialed on the draw-frame rollers at a spinning mill in the Mekong Delta; ring-frame spindle bearings use a different grade, which the engineer proposes by the n·dm speed factor. TURMOGREASE CAN 1002 for medium-speed textile machine bearings and temperatures up to 160 °C.
Yes: TURMOTEMP LP 2502 (PFPE, up to 250 °C, n·dm 500,000) and TURMOGREASE N 2 MF (up to 200 °C, n·dm 600,000); very high speed and very high temperature rarely occur together, so choose by whichever condition is more severe.
Per the machine manual or the bearing manufacturer, usually 20–30 % of the free volume of the bearing; spindles by the number of grams in the machine manual. Overfilling is a common mistake: it makes the bearing run hot during the first hours and shortens its life.
Bearing designation or bore and outside diameter, speed in rpm, temperature measured at the housing, the grease in use and the current relubrication interval. The engineer calculates n·dm and replies within 24 working hours with the TDS.
Temperature, viscosity and registration data are given per the manufacturer's TDS published on each product page; the actual conditions of the machine decide the final choice. Machine makes and trademarks named on this page belong to their respective manufacturers.
Each page has TDS data, registrations, pack sizes and a form to request documents.
